Monts d'Azur Biological Reserve

Monts d'Azur Biological Reserve

On the vast Thorenc plain, in the heart of the Grasse Pre-Alps, the Monts d'Azur biological reserve offers an extraordinary experience. Inspired by the model of the great African parks, it extends over 700 hectares and is home to almost 800 species of wild animals roaming freely. Every year, some 35,000 visitors come to discover this unique site, located at an altitude of 1,000 meters.

Deer, wild boar and roe deer can be seen here, as well as two rare and emblematic species: Przewalski's horse, often depicted in prehistoric rock drawings, and the European bison, reintroduced to these lands some fifteen years ago, after an absence of 1,400 years in the Alpes-Maritimes.

The reserve can be explored on guided safaris, on foot or in a horse-drawn carriage. More than just a place to visit, it's a genuine ecological project, led by veterinarian Patrice Longour, aimed at raising public awareness of the fundamental role played by wild fauna in preserving ecosystems.
