Baroque heritage atop a medieval village
Erected in the XIVᵉ century by the Grimaldi family, the Château de Cagnes-sur-Mer dominates the Haut-de-Cagnes and today houses a museum where history, art and Mediterranean heritage meet. Transformed into a museum in 1946, this listed historic monument invites visitors to discover Baroque frescoes, modern art collections and temporary exhibitions, in an exceptional architectural setting offering a unique panorama of the Mediterranean.
Conceived as a place for dialogue between heritage and creation, the Grimaldi Castle Museum brings together history, art and Mediterranean culture. A former stately home that became a Baroque residence, it offers an itinerary that highlights both the memory of the site and its contemporary artistic vitality.
In its rooms of baroque frescoes and painted ceilings, the collections resonate with the majestic architecture and landscapes of Haut-de-Cagnes. Visitors will discover spaces dedicated to the olive tree, symbol of the Mediterranean, as well as regularly renewed exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.
Experiences include:
Explore the castle's historic rooms and admire the grand banqueting hall decorated by Giulio Benso.
Discover temporary exhibitions by established and emerging artists.
Explore Mediterranean culture through the Olive Museum.
Climb up to the keep for an exceptional panoramic view of the Mediterranean and hinterland.
A lively, open space, the Château-musée Grimaldi is an integral part of Cagnes-sur-Mer's cultural identity, alongside the Musée Renoir, the medieval village and the artistic events that punctuate the town.
