A gourmet tribute to the king of chefs
Housed in the birthplace of the famous chef Auguste Escoffier, in the heart of the old village of Villeneuve Loubet, the Escoffier Museum of Culinary Art is the only place in France entirely dedicated to the history of gastronomy. Mythical recipes, tableware, antique utensils... A tasty visit that traces the evolution of French cuisine through the legacy of an undisputed master.
Created in 1966, the museum pays tribute to Auguste Escoffier (1846-1935), father of modern cuisine, inventor of the à la carte menu and legendary dishes such as Peach Melba. A chef at Europe's top palaces and a friend of César Ritz, Escoffier revolutionized kitchens with his exacting standards, rigor and sense of aesthetics.
Housed in a typical Provencal house spread over several floors, the museum reveals 10 theme rooms, This unique tour combines history, tradition and culinary innovation. Temporary exhibitions regularly enhance this unique experience.
Among the treasures to be discovered, visitors can admire :
- The period kitchen with its stoves, copper pans and pastry moulds
- The Empire salon and 19th-century tableware
- Historic menus from official and royal dinners
- A collection of 1,500 culinary objects
- Original documents, letters, photos and manuscripts by Escoffier
- The famous Peach Melba reconstituted... life-size in resin!
A place of remembrance but also of transmission, the museum offers workshops, demonstrations and even occasional tastings, in an atmosphere that is both warm and educational.
