Musée national Marc Chagall in Nice

The Musée National Marc Chagall, located high above Nice in the leafy Cimiez district, is home to the world's largest public collection of the artist's works. Conceived by Chagall himself and inaugurated in 1973, this exceptional museum is dedicated to his spiritual work, in particular the 17 monumental canvases inspired by the Old Testament, brought together under the name of Biblical message.

Conceived as a place of peace, light and meditation, the museum offers a unique immersion in Chagall's dreamlike, colorful and symbolic universe. Paintings, gouaches, drawings, stained glass and mosaics all interact in a scenography that respects the artist's vision. Outside, a Mediterranean garden designed by Henri Fisch and a mosaic pond complete the setting, in perfect harmony with the spirit of the place.

Since its opening, the museum - under the supervision of the French Ministry of Culture - has added numerous works, archives, photographs and lithographs, constituting an exceptional group of works retracing the great themes dear to Chagall: the Bible, love, music, the circus and exile.

Among the treasures on display, visitors can discover :
- The 17 paintings by Biblical message, masterful and vibrant with spirituality
- The auditorium's blue-tinted stained glass windows bathe the room in celestial light.
- A monumental mosaic on the façade, composed of tesserae with a thousand reflections
- Rare graphic works, testifying to the mastery of line and color
- The artist's personal archive of letters, photographs and preparatory sketches

The permanent exhibition is regularly enriched by high-quality temporary exhibitions, highlighting the different facets of Chagall's work or engaging in dialogue with other modern artists.
