A haven of serenity just outside Mougins
Nestled in a landscape reminiscent of Tuscany, the Notre Dame de Vie chapel is a place steeped in history and emotion. This sanctuary, restored a few years ago thanks to the efforts of the town and the Fondation du Patrimoine, has attracted numerous personalities from the artistic world. Among them, Pablo Picasso, whose final resting place was a stone's throw from the chapel.
Erected on the site of a 12th-century Romanesque building, the chapel was rebuilt in the 17th century. Its simple, elegant architecture makes it a fine example of the Provencal Romanesque style.
For a long time, it welcomed families who came to baptize their stillborn children, making it a sanctuary imbued with spirituality. Its fame then spread far beyond local borders, thanks to the visits of such illustrious figures as Churchill, Cocteau, Chaplin and Rostropovitch. Churchill himself immortalized it in several of his paintings.
Today, Notre Dame de Vie is one of the most visited sites on the Côte d'Azur, offering visitors a peaceful atmosphere and a unique testimony to the religious heritage of Provence.
