An intimate immersion in the home of the master of Impressionism
Set in the heart of a vast estate planted with olive and citrus trees, the Renoir Museum in Cagnes sur Mer invites you to discover the intimate world of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, one of the most emblematic painters of Impressionism. Situated high above the town, with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean, the Collettes estate is home to the house where the artist lived out the last years of his life, surrounded by light, nature and inspiration.
Acquired by Renoir in 1907, this house with its Provencal charm is today a preserved place of memory, entirely renovated to recreate the atmosphere in which the painter worked on a daily basis. The museum, managed by the town of Cagnes sur Mer, features a collection of original paintings, sculptures, period furniture and personal objects that once belonged to the artist.
The tour takes in the light-filled studio, salons, bedrooms and gardens that inspired some of his last works. It also offers a moving look at the end of Renoir's life, afflicted with polyarthritis but still driven by an unflagging creativity.
Among the elements to be discovered, visitors can admire :
- Several original paintings and sketches by Renoir
- Sculptures created in collaboration with Richard Guino
- Authentic home furnishings, including the artist's armchair
- The paint shop preserved in its original state
- Family photos and letters tracing his daily life
- A panoramic view of the Baie des Anges and the hills of the Nice hinterland
The museum also offers temporary exhibitions, cultural events, art workshops and guided tours for all publics, in an enchanting setting steeped in history and emotion.
